Researchers in Germany have discovered that sex may actually cure a headache.
“Our data suggest…that sexual activity can lead to partial or complete relief of headache in some migraine and a few cluster headache patients,” wrote the authors of the study, published Feb. 19 in Cephalagia.
The scientists studied 800 patients who suffered from migraines and 200 who reported chronic cluster headaches. One third of respondents admitted to having sex during their episodes. 67% of those with migraines reported a partial or total alleviation of symptoms, while 37% of cluster headache patients said sex helped lessen the pain. Sex didn’t work for everyone and seemed to help men more than women. But the results are promising.
